Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure designed to reshape the nose structure. Every rhinoplasty, or “nose job,” is 100 percent custom at Omaha Face and will be performed by our double board-certified facial plastic surgeon. To create balance, harmony, and to enhance your other facial features, your nose structure may need to be altered, whether altering the bone structure, cartilage, or both. Achieving a natural, balanced nose can be a life-changing surgery, boosting your confidence and overall quality of life.
Rhinoplasty recovery – what should I expect?
You need to plan to take enough time off work, school, or other activities for your recovery. You must avoid any strenuous activity for about two weeks after your procedure. Sleep with your head elevated, and avoid stretching, lifting, or bending over, as these actions can increase swelling. The results of your surgery will be visible within a few weeks. It will require about one year for the residual swelling to disappear.
Every person’s recovery is different and reflects your age and the extent of your procedure. You will spend the first couple of days after surgery taking it easy, using pain medication to stay comfortable. In most cases, you will have a small nasal cast, a few skin sutures (if the open approach is used), and possibly intranasal (within the nose) splints. These are removed six to seven days after the surgery. At that point, there will be some residual swelling and minor bruising, but pain and discomfort have significantly improved, and most people feel and look well enough to return to work or other activities in about a week to ten days.
